History
Louisville is located in the state of Kentucky in the Midwest area of the United States. The Original inhabitants of Kentucky included Chickasaw, Shawnee, Yuchi and Cherokee. Most of them were forced out of the area and there are no government recognized tribes left in Kentucky today. Kentucky was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark. Louisville was named after the French Monarch, King Louis XVI. Named after him to show appreciation for the assistance he displayed during the Revolutionary War. Kentucky became the 15th state in 1792. Louisville is known for its world famous Louisville Slugger baseball bats. It has sold well over 100 million and counting. Kentucky Fried Chicken, the Kentucky Derby, the Louisville Cardinals athletic team and the University of Louisville are all connected to Louisville. There are 3 Fortune 500 companies based in Louisville, Humana, Yum! Brands and Kindred Healthcare. Louisville International Airport is the main airport and the site of UPS’s worldwide air hub.
